ParticipACTION it's back

Those of us who were in highschool in the 80's might remember this government driven program to make today's youth be active. Apparently this morning major Canadian newspapers are advertising for a new CEO for this program and they are bringing it back which honestly with some revamping can't hurt but..

I don't have a single fond memory of it, remember the physical tests?? So many situps (not crunches back then) so many pushups, rope climb, who does a rope climb now? And the big one, the 12 MINUTE RUN. There I said it, the torture known as the 12 minute run, well guess what? I can kick the 12 Minute Run's ass!! oh yeah baby booted to the curb you are, HA!!! At 17 years old I couldn't run more than 1 minute, at 35 I can run for 40 mins straight at a speed of 9.6 km/ph take that and shove it, 12 minutes, I laugh in your face! wooooooooo hoooooooooo!

Oh, brag away -- but how are you at the flexed-arm hang? Huhhh? ;O)

ParticipAction! Triggered by the notion that some 100-year-old Swede was in better shape than the country's youth, or some such.

My Gr. 7 daughter already has daily phys ed - which is fantastic - so I kinda don't see the point of the tests. Do they really think the spud-like children will rise to the occasion in order to beat the tests, or will they ultimately be humiliated by getting some badge far below gold, silver or bronze.... igneous rock badges maybe? Interesting.

(P.S. whoooo hooooooo to youuuu)

Sounds like something that could improved upon, that's for sure. For some reason it sounds vaguely familiar, though...

Way to kick that 12 minute run's ass ;) I can't do that! But don't you worry, I'm working on it...
